Diwali is one of the most awaited festivals in India. The dhoom dhaam festival is full of lights, crackers, ethnic wear, and yummy food. As known, goddess Laxmi is offered with Pooja on the day and evening is for bursting patake, the most exciting part!
Bursting crackers is a fond game for both adults as well as kids. However, the safety aspect should be given the same importance for a happy Diwali. Some of the simple precautions that should be followed, especially by kids:
Adult Supervision: A must for the age group of 5-15. Ensuring and explaining the way to deal with crackers and the safe distance to be maintained while and after bursting a cracker is the responsibility of an adult towards their kids.
Safe dressing: The sparkling lehangas and other silk clothing are more likely to catch fire even from a small fire inferno. The best and safest way to avoid these is to wear cotton clothes that will not attract any fire. Along with cotton clothes, it’s better to wear rubber shoes to avoid burns and flexible to run. Putting cotton or earbuds in the ears also will reduce the effect on eardrums from the huge sounds of crackers.
Candles and Diyas: Children love to illuminate the house with candles and diyas. Ensure you make it a point to see that these are not being lit around flowing upholstery
Cracker disposal: Ensure that the burnt crackers are disposed off safely, preferably in a bucket of water to ensure that the child doesn’t step on a hot, partially burnt cracker. Also remember to keep a bucket of water, fire extinguisher, and a first aid box handy.
