On this note, the UNESCO marked a day to observe the importance of Literacy and termed as International Literacy Day, September 8. Why should we be concerned about this? We all can read and write this blog we are literate and follow the method! Imagine how many in the world can’t do the same. This day is a wakeup call for adults and kids.

Taking this to a micro level, can we do something as a citizen of Telangana to its fellow people?

Here is what can be done, a simple inquiry of whether your house maid’s children are studying or working at a young age will give an understanding at a household level. If the answer turns to be a no for studying,

  • Explain to them the importance of it.
  • You may also give your used textbooks if they can’t afford them.
  • You can take some home classes in your free time.

All these need no money but a heart!

As a literate, how can each one of us contribute to those who can’t afford decent schooling? What if their parents aren’t aware of the importance? Aren’t we missing some brilliant minds from the rags? Let us know your ideas in the comments.
